Senior Technician, Research & Development

The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for an experienced Senior Technician, Research & Development (R&D), in the Elastomers Business R&D lab in Freeport, Texas. The selected candidate will be part of a team of R&D researchers and technologists at the Compounding Development Center (B-3827 CDC) who will conduct R&D projects to contribute to the business growth by performing thermoplastic and elastomer formulation compounding experiments and property characterizations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Line owner for key extrusion lines. Operator of key instruments including single and twin screw extruders, mixers, testing equipment, and rheological equipment, etc.
Managing day to day lab activities.
Defining experimental plan and line schedule based on project priorities.
Managing the lab results database, being the lab safety focal point, and the Responsibilities will also include certain amounts of testing and analytical work as well.
Successful candidate in this role will have the opportunity to grow further in the career to potential tech leadership role.

Required
Qualifications:
2 or more year's laboratory experience in a chemical plant or other pilot scale facilities.
Understanding of laboratory operation and basic Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements such as safe operating procedures and management of change. Strong understanding and commitment to their own and the safety of others.
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills are required.
Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.
A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Must be able to willing and able to work in such environments wearing safety equipment, such as respirators, earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
Must be able to willing and able to work in such environments with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
Must be able to willing and able to work in such environments working in tight or closed-in spaces.
Must be willing and able to climb stairs/ladders and working high off the ground.
Must be willing and able to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with instruments such as extruders, mixers, testing machines, and/or polymer rheometer, etc.
Previous experience working in a polymer product development and application testing lab.
Education:
A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
Associate's degree in relevant field (Chemistry, Engineering, Material Sciences, etc)/4 years military experience in a related science technical field of study is required.
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Polymer Technology, Science, Material Sciences, etc, is preferred.
